Building on what exists we propose adding a large "C" shaped structure in the center of the gallery. This creates various areas for interpretive components both inside and out of the "C".
The intention is to increase the interpretive content of the existing exhibit experience, and to densify the space allowing more time to be spent learning and absorbing the information.
The existing wall case interprets the Torah, as well as holidays and celebrations. We will add multimedia in the form of small monitors mounted on the rail below the casework. Artifacts will be identified in the case with target lighting as the story behind the artifact and its provenance plays out on the monitor, building off the Bloomberg Connects Guide.
The new center structure is a mix of graphics, artifact cases, and interactive to extend the visit.
We will create a "focus" exhibit for the Salvador Dali Menorah featured in the corner that highlights the artifact and provides a short video presentation that tells his story, and his relationship with Ben Shahn.
Existing casework will be re-purposed in other areas of the museum
The East Gallery focuses on Jewish Tradition and the role of holidays on culture and family. Historic artifacts are displayed in a long case on the east wall. Standard interpretation is provided on a graphic rail below.
Above the wall case is a series of clear story windows. We will install a thin video panel that covers both sections of windows for two reasons. The First reason is, this will eliminate any and all light, (specifically UV light), from entering the room to preserve the artifact from UV decay. The video panels will show evocative imagery, slowly moving across the panel. These images will reflect and reinforce the artifacts and the stories they represent.
LED lighting will be added to the wall cases. Motion sensors will light up each section of wall case as a person walks up to view.
Wall case multimedia upgrades will add small monitors on the graphic rails that will tell stories of the artifacts that are featured in the casework. The rail will be updated to be story driven.
